The south room would
be the best for grand parents and west side for the bedroom is
advisable.
First of all an ideal site, free from any of Vastu defects should be
selected. After selecting the site, in designing a lay-out for
industry and providing for utilities special attention should be
paid for the following aspects :
1. The sloping of floors should be towards East, North and
North-East, More open space should be left in the East and North
side.
2. Building's height can be equal in all sides, otherwise South and
Western sides should not be taller in height as compared to East and
North.
3. Well, bore well, underground reservior, sink, pools, swimming
pools etc. should be located in North-East or Eastern zone,
preferably between MidEast and NorthEast.
4. Stair cases should always be provided in SouthWest part of the
building.
5. Overhead water tank may be erected in SouthWest, South or West.
Its height should be more than that of buildings height in NorthEast
corner.
6. Toilets may be placed in NorthWest or SouthEast. NorthEast and
SouthWest corners should be strictly avoided for this purpose.
7. Weigh bridge or weighing machines may be placed in NorthWest or
CentralEast.
8. Parking of heavy vehicles like trucks, tractors, trollies or
cranes etc, should be on the roads outside or if it is to be inside,
they should be parked in SouthWest zone.
9. Cycles, scooter, cars, light commercial vehicles can be parked in
NorthWest, North or East side of buildings. NorthEast should always
be free from any parking of vehicles.
10. Lawns with big avenue trees can be developed on South and West
sides.
11. Small lawns with fountains etc (without big trees) can be
developed in NorthEast, North and East also. Here only small plants
can be grown.
12. Administrative and other office blocks can be constructed in
North, East, South or SouthWest keeping the heights of these
buildings lower than that of main factory.
13. Staff quarters may be built on East without touching East wall,
in North, West or SouthEast. Multi storyed flats may be constructed
in South zone without touching main factory building.
14. Staff canteen may be placed in SouthEast.
15. Guard Room should be placed near gates in such an advantageous
position so that the guards can see approaching persons, vehicles
etc. without any obstruction. NorthEast direction should be avoided
for a guard room or security cabin. For East facing gate the
security office should be on SouthEast side of gate, and for North
facing gate it should be on NorthWest side.
16. Time office should be placed near gate for entry for workers but
not in the South direction.
17. Heavy plants and machinaries should be erected in West, South
and SouthWest zones leaving the NorthWest and SouthEast corners.
NorthEast and centre of the building should be avoided for placing
heavy machinaries.
18. Light and auxillary machines, work equipments and tools can be
placed in Eastern and Northern sides except in NorthEast, NorthWest
and SouthEast corners.
19. Generator, boilers, ovens, oilfired or electric furnaces, switch
gears, capacitors, transformers, control panels, smoke chimney etc.
all should be located in SouthEast.
20. Heavy raw materials stores may be placed in SouthWest, South or
West.
21. Semi processed materials can be stocked in South or West sides.
22. Finished goods stores, packing and forwarding can be in
NorthWest, in East or SouthEast. NorthWest is preferable. NorthEast
should always be avoided.
23. Maintenance workshop may be in South, SouthWest avoiding
NorthEast and centre. Maintenance and consumable stores should be
nearer to the workshop.
24. A temple (even a small will do) in the NorthEast corner should
be built and maintained neat and clean. No material should be
stacked here.
25. Toilets in the administrative building or in other parts of
factory or mill should be made in SouthEast or NorthWest area and if
septic tank is to be built for that purpose, it should be built in
between North and NorthWest or between East and SouthEast.
Several things need
careful consideration while going in for construction of a building.
The most important of all these is selecting the right plot or site.
Sand and its surroundings bring peace and harmony or pains and
sorrows in life. Thus it is always advisible to consult an expert on
Vastu Shastra before buying a plot or purchasing a house, flat or
other buildings instead of calling him in at a later stage to design
the building, do supervision and other work. By the time the damage
would have already been done.

FROM WHOM NOT TO BUY
A PLOT
According to Vastu Shastra, a plot or site of land should not be
purchased :
- From those who became insolvent
- From person suffering from leprosy
- From lunatics
- From people who have left the country, etc.
Similarly, land donated to temple, alloted to watchman of village or
colony, land in possession of charitable trusts, land without any
title deed should not be purchased. Land containing boulders, ant
hills, worm hills, bones and skeleton etc, should not be acquired.
DIRECTION OF THE PLOT
- Plot facing East is good for scholars, philosphers, priests,
professors, teachers etc.
- Plot facing North is good for those in power, administration and
those who work for government.
- Plot facing South is good for business class and for those who
work in business organisation.
- Plot facing West is for those who provide supporting services to
the society.
ENVIRONMENT OR
SURROUNDINGS OF THE PLOT
This is most important.
If the sorrundings are not good, we suffer in many ways.
- Plots which are fertile with plants and greeneries are very good.
- A river or big canal nearby and if it is in North side and water
flows from West to East, it is good.
- Similarly if it is on East side of the plot with water flowing
from South to North, that is also good.
- But plots with rivers or canal flowing on West or South side of
the plot should be avoided.
- Hills, hillocks, mounds of Earth, big boulders etc on the
Southern, South West and Western sides of the plot is good : in
other sides, it will mar the progress.
- There should be no graveyard, cemetry or tomb adjacent to the plot
or in front or back.
- Location of temples near the plot also affect the immates. Temple
on the right side of a plot cause material loss, on the left, grief
and sorrow, in front, obstruction to progress and in the 100 feet
apart, those disastrous result are avoided.
- Similarly plot very near to Cinema-theatres, schools and colleages
are to be avoided.
OBSTRUCTION IN FRONT
OF MAIN GATE OF PLOT
If there are obstructions of the undernoted types before main gate
of the plot, following problems will arise as per BRAHUSANHITHA.
- Big Tree-obstruction to the progress of children,
- Gutter or Ditch-grief,
- Open well- mental problem,
- Corner of another building-mental unrest,
- Water drain-draining of income by unwanted expenses,
- Straight street-affecting longivity of inmates,
- Dilapidated house or walls-affecting prosperity,
- Staircase railings-sadness,
- Pillars; Electric and telephone post-affecting females.
According to VASTURAJ and BRAHUSANHITA these are called VEDH DOSHA.
But in between the plot and obstacles if there is a public road,
these deficiencies are nullified.
Similarly, if the distance between the obstacles and the house is
two times the height of the house, these deficiencies will have no
effect. For example, if the height of the house is 11 feet and if
the obstructions are more than 22 feet away, Vedh Dosha vanishes.
SURROUNDINGS OF NEIGHBOURS
The surroundings of our neighbouring houses on all sides also affect
us.
• Rain water falling from the roofs of neighbours should not flow
into our plot particularly from North or East direction.
• The affluent of neighbour should not flow into our plot.
• In the North East side of the plot high-rise or tall buildings
should not be there because such high rise buildings give rise to
mental unrest. But if they are in South, South West or Western sides
that will be auspicious to the buyer of the new plot or house.
• In between two neighbouring big plots, a smaller plot should not
be purchased. Similarly between two tall buildings, a small house
should not be bought. This will make the buyer poorer day by day.
• A plot measuring 180 feet By 100 feet (180*100) was purchased by
three parties.
Here the person who bought plot C turns out to be most prosperous
while owner of plot B has to face all sorts of trouble.

Vastu for Building Mahurat
Complete Vastu recommendation for Building Mahurat
After the land has been selected the owner should consult a learned
astrologer to find out and auspicious time (muhurat) to start the
construction of the house which would bring him health, wealth,
prosperity and good fortune. A learned astrologer should be
consulted because by doing so the construction work will go on
smoothly, there will be no hindrances or problems, work will be
completed soon successfully. Often it has been observed that if the
work is started without caring for the auspicious moment, the work
has to be stopped in between due to financial difficulties or other
problems and is left incomplete. Not only financial loss, it brings
loss of mental peace also. Therefore house construction work must be
started after full consideration for the work to be successful and
fruitful.
Generally construction of house, temple, palaces (Raj Bhawan), city
etc. should not be stared or first entry (grah-pravesh) should not
be accomplished during the period Ashadh Shukla to Kartik Shikla ,
when gods are asleep (Dev Shayan).
Muhurat (auspicious times) for construction of house or starting the
work have been given in the Panchangs. Astrologers have expressed
their own different views about starting the construction work.
According to Vasturaj Vallabh, Leo constellation (singhasth),
Vyatipat, Vaidhriti, Dagdhtithi, Guru 9Jupiter), Shukra (Venus) when
set, weak moon, Rikta tithi (4/9/14) are not auspicious for starting
house construction work or any other good and auspicious work. Some
scholars are of the opinion that if Jupiter or Venus are set (Tara)
it doesn't matter.
Give below are the sun Sankranties during which if construction work
is started it gives varied results:
1. Sun in the Aries (Mesh) Rashi 14 April to 13 May-very good.
2. Sun in the Taurus (Vrish) Rashi 14 May to 13 June-increase in
wealth
3. Sun is in Gemini (Mithun) Rashi 14 June to 13 July-Death
4. Sun is in Cancer (Kark) Rashi 14 July to 13 August-very good
5. Sun is in Leo (Singh) Rashi 14 August to 13 September - increase
in number of servants.
6. Sun is in Virgo (Kanya) Rashi 14 September to 13 October
-Diseases
7. Sun is in Libra (Tula) Rashi 14 October to 13 November -
Happiness/comforts
8. Sun is in Scorpio (Vrishchik) Rashi 14 November to 13 December -
Increase in Wealth.
9. Sun is in Saggitarius (Dhanu) Rashi 14 Dec. to 13 January-loss
10. Sun is in Capricorn (Makar) Rashi 14 Jan. to 13 February-gain of
wealth.
11. Sun is in Aquarius (Kumbh) Rashi 14 Feb. to 13 March-gain of
Jewels
12. Sun is in Pisces (Meen) Rashi 14 March to 13 April-Fear.
Therefore the 3rd, 6th, 9th and 12th i.e., Mithun (Gemini), Vigro (Kanya),
Saggitarius (Dhanu) and Pisces (Meen) Rashies are not suitable and
auspicious for starting house construction, and the work should not
be started during the period sun is in these Rashis.
Among the months, Baisaakh, Shravan, Margshirsh Magh and Falgun are
good for the work. Bhadrapad and Kartik are also normally
permissible.
Construction work should be started on the dates (tithis)
2,3,5,6,7,10,11,12,13,15 and the 1st of Krishna Paksha (dark
fortnight).
Prohibited date - Starting the construction work on the dates
1,4,8,9,14 and 30 (Amavas) brings Poverty, loss of wealth, loss of
money, death of wife, fear from the rulers. Therefore work should
not be started on these dates.
Constellations - The Nakshatras Rohini, Mrigshira, Chitra, Hast,
Swati, Anuradha, Uttarashdah, Uttar Bhadrapad, Uttar Falguni,
Dhanshtha, Shatbhisha, Revati are good for starting the house
construction work.
Lagna - Aries, Gemini, Leo, Virgo, Scorpio, Aquarius, and Pisces
Lagna, when it is not Panchban and it is not the period of Bhoomi
Shayan, and there is some beneficial planet in the centre and
triangle positions, and the eighth house is beneficial when there
are cruel planets in 3rd, 6th and 11th houses; such periods are good
for auspicious starting of the construction work.
Bhoomi Shayan - On the days of constellations 5/7/9/12/19/26 from
the constellation in which sun is situated the earth is 'sleeping' (Bhoomi
Shayan) and on these days also during the 4/8/5/3//6/7 Ghati it is
so; in remaining Ghatis it is not Bhoomi Shayan.
Days - Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday are good
days to start construction work. On Sunday or Tuesday starting the
work should be avoided.
For starting the house construction work, Vrish-vasta calculation
should be done. If the constellation of the day counted from that of
the sun comes upto 7, it is inauspicious, next 11 it is god and next
10 are again inauspicious. Abhijeet should also be included in
counting.
7 In auspicious (unlucky) 11 Auspicious (Lucky) 10 In auspicious
(Unlucky) 28 constellations Result of the count from constellation
of the sun to that of the Moon.
Vishisht Yoga (Special combinations) have also been described for
the start of house construction. The combination of seven Sakar
(starting with 'S' Viz. Saturday, Swati nakshatra, Singh (Leo) Lagna
Shukla Paksha (Moonlit fortnight), Seventh tithi, Shubh yoga and
Shravan month, is very good for starting the work of a house. It
will fetch to the owner growth of all wealth and fortune along with
the gain of conveyance, wealth and prosperity, sons and grandsons
etc.
House construction is not allowed in singh (Leo) Lagna, it should
not be started in this Lagna alone, but if the above combination is
there with Singh Lagna starting of the work is auspicious. House
construction started in Shukla Paksha brings happiness, while that
in Krishna Paksha it brings loss. Therefore it is better to start
the construction work after well consideration of the Shukla or
Krishna Paksha.
Vastu Gyaan
Vastu means the dwelling of humans & Gods. Vastu shastra is an
ancient science which helps one to get the natural benefits freely
offered by the five basic elements of the universe in which we all
live. These basic elements are Akash (SKY), Prithvi (EARTH), Paani
(WATER), Agni (FIRE), and Vayu (WIND). Vastu Shastra can be applied
by keeping in harmony with these basic five elements of nature.
Vastu Shastra is an edifice science that was developed by our
learned people thousands of years ago. Its application today is
purely architectural and its principles are based on becoming one
with nature.
Many Vastu rules are derived from 'Vastu Purusha Mandala' which is
depicted as a man lying with his head pointing north east, in a grid
of usually 64 squares. The different directions and sectors are
assigned to different Gods and Guardians.
In doing Vastu of any place , home, work place, building, factory,
land or plot we try to harmonize the place with respect to the five
basic elements called as Panchbhoota namely Air, Water, Fire, Earth
and Space. We shall discuss about importance of each of this element
and how well we can harmonize them to relieve a stressful life,
bringing 3 P's viz peace, protection and prosperity in our lives.
• WATER: Water bodies in north or east are considered good. As far
as the flow of domestic water is concerned, it should be borne in
mind and that such water should be drained out in North - East.
Wells, tubewells, swimming pools etc. should all be in the
North-East. The water from the toilets and bathrooms, too, should be
drained out in the North- East. The North-East direction is always
auspicious and suitable for water. There are sewer-systems in the
cities. The Septic tanks or the flow of sewer systems should be
towards North - West. The flow of rain or fresh water should be
towards North-East.
• FIRE: The direction of Fire is South-East. The Kitchen, fireplace,
geysers etc. should be placed only in this direction. Alternatively
these could be placed in North-West, because it is at 180 degree to
South-East. The Vastu Fire Element One can take care of the
South-East Corners of all rooms and aim for Hapiness in the family,
Good Health, Sound Finances, and Nice Married Life. As South-East
belongs to Agni he can create enough trouble for inmates. The
South-East corner of every room should be taken care of it. One can
keep Agni - Vastu Fire Element cheerful by having a spotlight or
lantern in the South-East corner with light or burning flame
pointing to the roof. One can have the Electrical gadgets like
Television, VCR, Fridge, Computer, Fire-place, Microwaves, radio etc
placed in South-East corner.
• AIR: The air should enter the building from North -East. All the
openings and media for air entry such as doors, windows, ventilators
coolers, air-conditioners, verandahs, balconies etc. should be in
this directions.
• SPACE OR OPEN SKY: The open sky influences greatly. We can get the
effect of terrestrial-energies uninterruptedly. But the buildings
prove a barrier to the effects of open sky. Therefore, the
importance of roofs or lawns gets emphasized, but the Vastu shastra
has refrained from deliberating in detail over it, because it is
related chiefly to building construction and we will discuss only
this aspect. Traditionally every house in India used to have an open
space (Court Yard) in the center of the house. It provided the
dwellers not only the open sky but also sunlight and
cross-ventilation of air.
• SHAPE OF PLOT: Favourites are regular shaped square or rectangular
plota AND irregular shaped plots are normally avoided.
• OBSTRUCTION: Obstruction like big trees, open well, pillars and
posts before a arrow like roads are to be avoided.
• IDEAL SITE: A building should be constructed preferably in a
square plot the house should be constructed in the for house centre
and in rectangular plot it should be nearer to construction south,
south west and west sides preferably leaving more in a plot open
space on north and east. "L" or Considered not suitable for house as
corners will be "U" shaped missing and occupants will be missing
opportunities.
Quick Vastu Shanti Tips
When sitting for worship, keep your face towards North-West and sit
in that corner to intake air from that direction.
Cash boxes can be located in the room towards the North (treasury).
But if the box is heavy (such as a safe, heavy almirah) then it
should be kept in the South¬west corner and the door of the almirah
should open towards the North.
TVs and computers should ideally be placed in the Southeast corner
of the living room or study room. They should not be placed in the
Northeast corner or Southwest corner.
Telephones can be placed in the Southeast or North¬west corner but
not in the Southwest or Northeast.
An aquarium with 9 gold fish and one black fish, in the north east
corner/portion of the house or factory is very good.
If the north-east area is untidy or unshapely, the well being of
male issues is found to be precarious.
One should sleep with his head pointing towards the South.
Students should be facing east while studying, for Academic
Excellence.

trees the south in itself is good and so is the west. No tree should
be grown in the north and the east. The one at the north-east is the
worst.
Small decorative plants and shrubs may be grown in the north and the
east. The height should not exceed, say, half a meter at the
north-east increasing gradually to not more than 1.5 meter as one
moves from the north-east to the north-west or to the south-east
end.
Except rose and a few medicinal ones, all thorny plants give rise to
tensions in the environment. Plants exuding white sap should also be
kept off. Lime and karonda etc. are OK in an orchard but not in
residence or business premises.
Amongst the beneficial plants, the best is Tulsi. It is commendable
to keep at least one Tulsi plant in the north-east area of the
premises, but its height should not exceed 1.5 meter.
Growing creepers/climbers with support on the compound wall or a
house wall is best avoided.
Cactus should not be planted or kept in the house.
In the South-West Corner of the house one should sleep pointing his
head towards south.
If north of any house is blocked it blocks prosperity.
Water flowing/water fountain from north to east is very good.
Directions & their respective Rulers
North-east (Eshan) is ruled by Sadasiva or God Himself. Hence this
direction is paramount, which demands keeping it scrupulously clean,
open and highly receptive in a welcome "mode" always.
East is ruled by Indra, the chief of the gods, giver of pleasures.
The direction also represents the realm of the rising Sun projecting
ultra-violet rays, so essential for health in several ways.
South-east (Agneya) is the habitat of fire, the storehouse of
energy.
South is the abode of Yama, the god of death.
South-west (Nairitya) is the abode of Putna demoness.
West is the abode of Varuna, the god of ocean. It is also the
direction of the setting Sun which gives infra-red radiation.
North-west (Vayavva) is the abode of air/wind, the invisible, but
the most effective blessing for all objects in need of
motion/movement for their efficiency.
North is the abode of Kuber, the god of wealth.
• REMEDIES FOR CONSTRUCTION MADE AGAINST THE PRINCIPLES OF VASTU:
Sometimes, it so happens that the man does such acts, out of
ignorance, which harm him and their remedy seems impossible. Here,
we are giving solutions to the problems of those, who had
constructed their houses against the rules of Vastu -Shastra. To
overcome following information is given, however, it is strongly
recommended that the Vastu of your own house especially correction
of Vastu should be done with the help of Vastu expert and should not
be attempted by acquiring shallow knowledge or tips for Vastu. Few
ill effects of Vastu if not done correctly and remedies are
discussed below for only general information.
If some river or drain is flowing in a direction other than the
north-east direction of the house and has anti - clock movement,
then it is advised to place a statue of dancing Ganeshji facing the
west on the north-east corner of the house.
If the boring has taken place in the wrong direction in a house or a
factory, then it is advised to place a picture of Panchmukhi
Hanumanji, facing South-West to the boring.
If a naked wall is seen while entering into a flat, then either a
picture or a statue of Ganeshji should be placed there. The naked
wall is the sign of loneliness. Hence, the wall should not be kept
naked.
If high voltage overhead wires pass over a house, then a plastic
pipe filled with lime should be erected from one corner to the other
of the affected area in such a manner that its both ends should
remain outside by at least three feet each. This will eliminate the
evil effects of energy being generated out of the overhead wire. In
certain cases, energy circles can be improved by using Swastika
Yantra. But, this requires a lot of care. This should be handled
under the supervision of an able Vastu Shastri.
• IDEAL HOUSE WITH PERFECT VASTU:
The following are the guidelines to design and construct an ideal
house which houses prosperity, protection and peaceful environment
in the house. It is essential to understand and interpret these
ground rules and then apply.
The main door of the house should preferably be located in any of
the exalted positions from the Northeast corner - either from North
of Northeast or from East of Northeast. Doors can also be in the
South of Southeast or West of Northwest but in no case, should the
main entrance be from the center of any direction. Also the main
entrance or door should be avoided in all the following four
directions, namely, North of Northwest, East of Southeast, South of
Southwest and West of Southwest. There should not be any obstruction
or water body just opposite the main entrance.
Balconies should be planned towards the East and North and should be
definitely avoided in the South and West. If balconies in the South
and West cannot be avoided, then larger balco¬nies must be provided
towards the North and East. Care should be taken while providing
balconies so that a cut or truncation is not created in the
Northeast corner.
The kitchen should be ideally situated in the South¬east corner of
the house and as an alternative in certain cases, may be in the
North¬west corner, but in both cases, the cooking platform should be
arranged to facili¬tate cooking while facing east only. The Kitchen
should never be in the Northeast corner and it should also be
avoided in the Southwest too, as both locations will create problems
with respect to the health and finance of the inmates.
Rooms in the West and East can be used for din¬ing. The appetite can
be stimulated in the dining hall by having the walls painted in
light pink or orange. A rectangular dining table is the most
preferred. In the dining room, while eating, one should sit facing
East or West.
Grains and other food can be stored in the Northwest sector. Oil,
butter, ghee, milk and other oily liquids can be stored in the
